I’ve been doing some thinking as of late. I’ve heard some individuals suggesting that male submissive are somehow weak, or lesser individuals. This couldn’t be farther from the truth. Let’s address the concept of submissive males being weak or lesser persons.
Submissive males are just weak: FALLACY. This goes for all submissives, male, female, gender neutral….whomever. That a person decides to allow another to control them is a privilege and an honor not to be taken lightly by the dominant in question. Are there weak persons who like to be subs? Of course. There are also weak persons who are dominant. Usually we see those people trying to control others without regard for the submissive’s. well-being…sometimes becoming dangerously abusive. Just as there are good and bad individuals in every society, so too are there weak people on both sides of power dynamic.
The idea that males must be dominant is an archaic social construct. It should be obsolete by now. You can never change every mind though, and there are still holdovers from yesteryear (sadly). We’d like to say that in 2017 racism should be obsolete. Sadly it’s not either.
That said, it’s up to the newer generations to educate incoming kinksters that it’s ok to be male and openly submissive. It’s also up to us to immediately and staunchly shut down the haters and “old guard” that try to make these community members feel badly about themselves. Each generation of society becomes a little more socially accepting of diversity…more socially just. Let’s do the same for the kink community.
Next time you find yourself internally criticizing a male for being submissive, think about him outside of a kink context, and think of his daily pressures, his responsibilities and how much he might acheive in his vanilla life. He’s equally deserving of respect, love, friendship and the stress relief that relinquishing control to a trustworthy dominant brings.
