We teach new slaves to eat from the floor from day one. Why? For a number of reasons -
- They learn that their days of habits associated with free people are long behind them and will never return. The first step is, of course, keeping them naked in front of free people. But the second is having them eat from a bowl on the floor and drink water from a bowl on the floor. They will never again sit at a table or use a knife and fork. These are refinements to be enjoyed by free people only.
- It also makes them understand very quickly that they will only eat when fed by a free person. No more are the days of going to a food cupboard or fridge if they feel hungry. Again, if you have dogs it is a good idea to feed your slaves at the same time as you feed your dogs. Use similar bowls for both breeds. It’s good to get them into a routine and it helps them appreciate very quickly their lowly status as just one of your owned animals.
- Whilst slaves each receive their own feed bowl I would recommend an owner has a slave share a water bowl with his/her dog(s). We do this and we also teach them that they are only allowed to drink *after* the dogs. We feel it is important for the slave to realise that its owner’s dog(s) enjoy a higher status in his/her household than slaves.
As I mentioned, eating from the floor is one of the *key* training steps we use with new stock and follow ISOA recommended guidelines. The others are -
- Being naked in front of free people at *all* times.
- Being allocated a 9-digit SLRN and given a pet name. This is its *only* identity as a slave and only its owner is ever likely to know its ‘vanilla’ name. It will be listed on all official documents and on its owner’s stock record only by its number. This can be tattooed onto it if required. Even if sold it will keep this same number although its new owner may allocate it a new pet name.
- Being collared and tagged (SLRN on one side, owner’s name on the other).
- Having to kneel in front of free people when addressed.
- Adressing free males of any age as 'sir’ and free females of any age as 'miss’ (or equivalent in local language).
- Being walked on a lead while on all fours.
- Being taught to 'do its business’ (both urinate and defecate) in the same way as a dog. In my experience, for many slaves this is the most difficult step. But we insist as they all need to understand that privacy, even for such hitherto imtimate bodily functions, is a thing of the past and is simply not applicable to a slave. We do stress we are not humiliating them as 'human beings’ or our 'equals’ - because they are not - but that we are simply training them as the livestock they now are. If it is good enough for the dogs - who are their superiors in *every* respect - it is certainly good enough for them. I’m sure they understand this intellectually but actually performing for the first few times can be difficult. But we persevere and, after a few times, they do get used even to this. After a while they seem to think nothing of it and, in fact, wait to be walked! They even usually do their best to squat well as we give them treats for performing properly (as well as a firm smack on the rump for not squatting properly … stick as well as carrot, as in all good training). All very Pavlovian. But it works.
- Being kept in a pen/cage.
- Being subject to corporal punishment.
- Being mated in public.
